Small Engines Workshop Technician

Our client is a newly established small engines workshop and family owned and operated business. They specialize in the repair and maintenance of lawnmowers, chainsaws, generators, and other small engine-powered equipment.

Due to business growth (and now assisting with flood recovery damage) our client is now seeking an additional member for their team – a Small Engines Workshop Technician.

The role could easily suit a semi-retired mechanic who was just looking for a few hours work to keep them busy or someone with a natural talent and interest in tinkering on small machines and keen to get started in the industry. The position could lead to an apprenticeship and or full time work if they are interested in taking it further, however the successful candidate must have some initial skill and experience to start.

Offered as a temporary recruit through IPA, the position will then transfer across to our client as a permanent part time team member down the track.

Position Overview:

The Small Engines Workshop Technician, plays a crucial role in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of small engines and outdoor power equipment. The ideal candidate should possess an inquisitive mind, good mechanical aptitude and a passion for delivering high-quality service to their customers. Attention to detail and being able to maintain a clean and organized environment workplace is also a must.

Hours of work: 4 hours, 3 days a week (but could be more due to current workload)

Payrate: According to the Manufacturing Award and level of skill

What’s involved?

Diagnosis and Repair:

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and diagnose issues
  • Perform repairs and maintenance tasks

Parts Identification and Ordering:

  • Identify and order necessary replacement parts, ensuring compatibility and quality.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of supplies.

Preventive Maintenance and servicing:

  • Conduct maintenance checks to proactively identify potential issues and prevent breakdowns.
  • Perform oil changes, spark plug replacements, and other routine maintenance tasks.

Customer Interaction:

  • Communicate with customers
  • Provide clear explanations of necessary repairs.

Record Keeping:

  • Maintain detailed records of all repairs, including parts used, labour hours, and customer interactions.

The nice to haves:

  1. Experience working around small engines / machines.
  2. Natural ability to troubleshoot problems and use diagnostic tools and equipment to assist.
  3. Be familiar with various small engine brands and models.
  4. Ability to work independently and to find work to do
